Beijing

Beijing is known for its ancient history and modernization, it is a must see because it is the home of many of the finest icons of China’s imperial and recent past. It is also the home of the famous Great Wall of China and the Forbidden City (which are two of our activities on our trip), both are truly an unforgettable sight.

Xi’an

Xi’an is a window to China’s history and civilization. You get the incredible opportunity to discover where China started. You will get the chance to experience and see the Terracotta Army, where you will see thousands of life size and detailed Terracotta Soldiers who represent the guard troops of the first emperor- Qin Shihuang. It is considered one of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, making you feel like you are living in 209 BCE.

Chengdu

Last but definitely not least is Chengdu. Chengdu is most famous and is the hometown of the giant pandas. In this easy going city you can have the chance to take part in an extremely rare panda volunteer program to have an up close look at these lovable creatures! You will also get a chance to try the authentic and famous hot pot! It is truly the finishing touch to a perfect China trip!

ITINERARY SCHEDULE

Day 1: Houston, TX – Beijing(PEK)

• Your flight from residency to Beijing will provide you with meals and entertainment.

Day 2: Arriving in Beijing

• Arrive at Beijing International Airport, received by local guide and transfer to hotel for rest

• Icebreaker party with games

Day 3: Capital City of China

• Visit Tian’anmen Square and Forbidden City (Add-on: rent Qing style robe for photo)

• Visit Qianmen Street; excursion to Jiangshan Park to overlook the entire Forbidden City

• Special dinner: Beijing roasted duck banquet

• Chinese Kung-fu show

Day 4: Humane and Natural Beauty in Beijing

• Visit Badaling Great Wall (Add-on: cable cart or experience tobaggan down the hill); visit inside of Water Cube (Add-on: indoor water park rides and attraction)

• Water Cube and Bird Nest (evening light tour)

Day 5: Beijing Natives

• Visit Peking University, the top university in China and tour campus

• Take a rickshaw tour of Beijing Hutong and Houhai; shop at Hongqiao Market / Xiushui Street for souvenir

• Chinese acrobat show

Day 6: Goodbye Beijing, Hello Xi’an

• Visit Summer Palace and experience the Dragon Boat cruising on Kungming Lake

• Visit Temple of Heaven including Echo Wall / Temple of Heaven Park

• Take overnight sleeper train from Beijing to Xi’an

Day 7: Explore Xi’an City

• Arrive at Xi’an around 8AM. Bike tour of Fortifications of Xi’an – the oldest and best preserved city defense wall; visit Drum Tower and Bell Tower (outside view)

• Visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and experience Chinese Calligraphy – bring home your master piece; visit Gao Grand Courtyard and Muslim Street

• Shadow puppet show

Day 8: Ancient Imperial Residency

• Visit Terracotta Warriors and Horses (World’s 7 wonders)

• Visit Art Ceramics and Lacquer Factory and understand how terracotta warriors is made. DIY mini clay figure and bring home

• Special dinner: dumpling banquet

• Add-on: evening Karaoke fun

Day 9: Local School Cultural Exchange Visit

• Xi’an local school visit ( including campus visit, cultural exchange activities with Chinese pal, practicing Chinese Kungfu, American-Chinese student talent show, etc )

• Tour the Xi’an Museum to understand the history and culture of the city

• Free activities at Shuncheng Alley ( for coffee shop, tea houses, gift shop, etc )

Day 10: Transfer to Chengdu

• Take a morning bullet train from Xi’an to Chengdu, arriving around 1pm

• Visit Wide and Narrow Alley for leisure time; visit Chunxi Road modern plaza and shop for upscale goods

• Special dinner: Chengdu Spicy Hot Pot

• Face-changing Sichuan Opera

Day 11: National Treasure

• Plan A (for non-panda volunteers): Watch cute panda at Panda Research Base

• Plan B (extra $200): Panda Volunteer Program. Activities include: volunteer training and preparation, panda colony house cleaning, visit breeding area, panda feeding, free activities, watch panda documentary and attend to panda workshop, cutting bamboo and preparing panda cake

• Stem tour: visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System – the world’s oldest irrigation system that is still in use today

• Visit ancient Jinli Street with red lantern decoration, shopping for famous Shu Embroidery
